Have you been asked to host or plan a holiday get-together this year? It always seems like such an easy task until you realize you’re responsible for providing entertainment, sustenance AND cocktails for all your guests. Well don’t you fret, ANGOSTURA bitters is here to lift your holiday spirit(s) with cocktail recipes and tips that are sure to provide a night your guests will never forget.
Check out our cocktail tips for your holiday party below, each paired with one of our favorite seasonal sips.
1. Surprise and delight with twists on classic cocktails
Serve an unexpected twist on a classic cocktail to showcase your creativity – this can mean swapping out the main spirit in a recipe for another, choosing a bitters-forward option or even stepping up your garnish game. Whether it’s an Old Fashioned, a martini, or something entirely different, you’d be surprised how customizable some of your favorite cocktails can be.
The Risky Jackal’s Tequila Old Fashioned is a show-stopping example. This bold spirit swap (tequila in place of bourbon) provides a light winter option and will leave guests inspired by your cocktail creativity.
Tequila Old Fashioned
2 oz blanco tequila
¼ oz Demerara syrup
2 dashes ANGOSTURA® aromatic bitters
Garnish: grapefruit rind
Add ingredients to an ice-filled mixing glass.
Strain into an ice-filled rocks glass.
Squeeze the oils from the grapefruit rind over the drink, then insert into the drink as garnish.
2. Sometimes, you have to experiment with new and unexpected winter flavors
While we too, are fans of the traditional mulled wine or peppermint martinis, your guests will likely have their fill of these holiday staples this season. Don’t be another holiday party with the same predictable cocktail menu. Instead, try incorporating notes of maple, cranberry, cider and honey into your cocktail menu to leave them wanting the recipes.
The Citrus Fizz is a great example of incorporating cranberry to create a new holiday favorite. The perfect balance of sweet, tart and frothy, this cocktail is exactly what your guests wouldn’t expect at the party, but after one sip, it’s sure to make anyone’s heart grow three sizes.
2 oz. gin
.75 oz. lemon juice
.75 oz. cranberry juice
2 dashes of ANGOSTURA® orange bitters
a few dashes of ANGOSTURA® aromatic bitters
1 egg white
Combine all ingredients in a shaker tin and dry shake.
Add ice, shake once more, and strain into a coupe.
For an artistic touch, add a few dashes of ANGOSTURA® aromatic bitters to the foam to create a swirl.
Garnish with a single clove.
3. Other times, you have to embrace the season
There’s only one time of year you can hang ornaments, wear Santa hats, and serve Eggnog, so why not embrace it? While it’s easy to grow tired of most traditional holiday flavors, there’s something to be said for serving up the drink your guests have been waiting all year to enjoy, but with an ANGOSUTRA twist.
6 eggs, beaten
2 tsp Grated Lime Zest
2 14 oz cans Sweetened Condensed Milk
3 C Evaporated Milk
2 C Angostura® 7 Yr. Rum
1 oz Angostura® aromatic bitters
In a large bowl, beat eggs and lime zest using an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
Gradually pour in the condensed milk while continuing to mix then pour in the evaporated milk.
Stir in the rum and bitters and sprinkle with nutmeg.
Transfer to a bottle and chill for at least 1 hour before serving. Serve over crushed ice.
4. Provide a no or low-ABV option
Sometimes, less really is more. Serving a no or low-ABV cocktail option allows your guests to enjoy cocktails all night long. It’s also a no-pressure way to provide fun and festive options for those who would prefer to opt out of alcoholic beverages.
We suggest you keep it classy (and classic) with Cheers to Happy Hour’s low-ABV twist on a tried and true classic: The Old Fashioned. Now your guests can sip the night away without the worry of over imbibing (and getting run over by a reindeer ?).
Fresh Old Fashioned
2 dash ANGOSTURA® aromatic bitters
1.5 oz Seedlip garden
0.5 oz Seedlip grove
0.25 oz Giffard Pamplemousse liqueur
Barspoon sweet corn water syrup
