Most adults and even children are very busy these days; parents work all day and run errands and take care of things that need to do during lunch hours and after work. Kids are in school, study, and are involved with after-school activities. And now, the economy is not as good as it once was, either.
All these conditions make it necessary to have an arsenal of cheap, quick, easy recipes on hand so that the family can enjoy a nice evening meal together without the mom or dad having to wear themselves out to get it prepared. There are a myriad of products available in just about every grocery now that can help you put together a nice meal without having to break the bank or go to bed exhausted from standing over the stove for an hour after work.
The best kinds of foods to keep on hand are chicken breasts and hamburger meat, vegetables that you can steam in the bag, a few kinds of pasta, canned tomatoes or tomato sauce, and flavored rice or noodles.
Dirty rice is one of my favorite cheap, quick, and easy recipes, and if you do not tell anyone elsewise, everyone will think you worked really hard on it; the truth is, it could not be simpler if you get a prepared dirty rice mix in the box. All you have to do is brown some hamburger meat and then follow the directions on the box of rice mix. You just add some water and the contents to your skillet and let it cook for about twenty minutes or so.
While it's cooking, you can prepare a salad, a vegetable like broccoli or corn, and some nice bread. By the time the dirty rice is cooked, the side dishes will be ready, and you can simply eat, relax, and enjoy.
